February 28, 2002
President Stewart Caffey called the meeting to order. The minutes are now posted on the AWG web site, so reading them is waived, and the minutes are accepted by acclamation as printed. Members may examine a hard copy of the minutes, and several were circulated at the meeting.
Treasurer Gail McMillan gave the treasurer's report. The operating fund balance $3642.31.
Guests were introduced and "Brags and Sags" were reported by the membership. Ginny Greene will have additional details regarding members' comments in the monthly newsletter. Nancy Masters announced an unusual "brag" that she and Bill had been treated this past month to first class airfare to Paris, France, and they had a wonderful trip.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Stewart announced that he is beginning the selection process to appoint a nominating committee. The membership will vote to elect the nominating committee at the March meeting. This committee will present nominees at the April meeting, and the new board will be elected by membership vote at the May meeting.
Nancy Masters led a "cheerleading" exercise that reminded all to "WRITE" and to "enter the CONTEST" which begins March 1 and goes through March 31, 2002. The contest results will be announced at the annual AWG Writers Workshop, June 8 at Briarstone Manor, with $100 being first prize money. Lila Guzman will be the main speaker. Nancy advised us that we need 200 entries to meet the expenses of this workshop.
NEW BUSINESS:
Member Barbara Darnall, presented an informative, useful program on poetry writing from the viewpoint of a writer. This presentation on poetry is part of AWG's continuing education for our professional development as writers.
Meeting adjourned and refreshments were served by Ginny Greene, Elaine Coleman and Stewart Caffey.
