Abilene Writers Guild Meeting Minutes
Center for Contemporary Arts Building
January 23, 2003
President Barbara Rollins called the meeting to order.
Visitors were introduced.
Treasurer Gail McMillan reported $1,604.08 bank balance with 93 members and counting.
Members shared Brags and Sags, and explained how they researched or sold their articles or books.
Ruth Sellers encouraged all members to volunteer to handle refreshments.
President Rollins announced that any suggested changes to the Guild Bylaws must be to a Board member by January 31. The Bylaws are posted on the AWG website.
Contest chair Jan Carrington announced that entry forms are now available and will be forwarded in the January, February and March newsletters. She explained the awards, fees for entry, and answered other questions concerning the spring contest.
Nancy Robinson Masters announced the winners of the January members only contest. Chris Flory, editor for Scholastic Grolier was the judge. Winners are:
- First place: "Denial Revisited" by Marla Cooper of Odessa
- Second place tie: "Writing a Thank You Note, The First Step" by Augustine Tenant
- Second place tie: "I Take Pen in Hand" by Barbara Darnall
- Third place tie: "The Burning" by Sue Turner
- Third place tie: "Letter to Mr. Key" by Mary Wynn Craig
- Honorble Mention: "Writing Down the Trail to My First Sale" by Betty Thomason
Ginny Greene announced she is retiring as Newsletter Editor as of the May newsletter, and called for volunteers to take over the job.
Nancy Masters presented the January program - answers to basic questions. The program was extremely well received.
The meeting adjourned, and m embers enjoyed refreshments.
