Abilene Writers Guild Meeting Minutes
Jury Assembly Room, Taylor County Courthouse
Thursday, July 25, 2002, 7:30 P.M.
President Barbara Rollins called the meeting to order. The minutes are now posted on the AWG web site, so reading them is waived, and the minutes are accepted by acclamation as printed.
Treasurer Gail McMillan reported we have a balance of 4,036.38 in our operating account. Current membership is 58. The new fiscal year began June 1.
Guests were introduced and "Brags and Sags" were reported by the membership.
Danielle Delhomme showed and took orders for her new book, Women Forged in Fire.
The August meeting will be at the Center for Contemporary Arts.
NEW BUSINESS
President Rollins announced that the Board will have a planning meeting at Nancy Robinson Masters' home on August 14, and asked all members who have comments or suggestions to contact a Board member prior to that date.
Elaine Coleman announced the Ozark Creaative Writers conference is October 10-12 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Conference fee is $60.00 and includes free contest entries. Deadline to enter is August 26.
Nancy Robinson Masters announced the contest winners for July. The topic was travel. Winners were:
- 1st Mac Davis Stopover in American Samoa
- 2nd Diane Lyell Where the Deer and Dinosaurs Play
- 3rd Pat Johnson Finding the Promised Land
There were 14 entries, and Bob Bruce judged. Contest topics and rules can be found on the AWG website.
The program on critique groups was presented by Tracey Sherman and Sue Turner. Anyone interested in being in a critique group so indicated, and Nancy Robinson Masters explained that names will be drawn at random. Four people will be assigned to a group for three months, then the groups will reorganize.
The meeting adjourned and refreshments were served by Sue Turner, Gwen Choate and Vivian Allison.
