Abilene Writers Guild Meeting Minutes
Center for Contemporary Arts Building
Thursday, May 23, 2002, 7:30 P.M.
President Stewart Caffey opened the meeting, a copy of minutes was made available and approved by acclamation. Treasurer Gail McMillan gave the treasurer's report: Operating Fund balance is $3063.92. Membership remains at 101 members.

NEW BUSINESS:
Dorris Tull, our new refreshment chairman, circulated a "refreshment list" for members to sign up for the remaining months this year, which will be AWG's 33rd birthday, beginning this fiscal year.
Members voted to furnish two tickets for Augustine Tennant, AWG's honoree at the 2002 Abilene Arts Award.
Member Lynn Davidson offered his paid workshop place to whomever the Guild would like to receive this gift, but asked we pick up all brochures, handouts and save for him.
OLD BUSINESS:
Workshop reminder that it will be the SECOND Saturday in June. Lila Guzman and Sam Davis will be featured writer-presenters. Send your registration and payment to Gail McMillan before the deadline of June 5. Also, contest chairman, Jan Carrington has turned all entries in to Nancy who, in turn, has submitted them to our judges. AWG will also add a "Best of Show" award from all the entries submitted. Winners will be announced at the June Workshop.
ELECTION:
Membership was called to vote on the slate of nominees who will serve for the fiscal years 2002 and 2003. Stewart asked for any nominations from the floor and there were none. The following nominees were presented, motions were made and seconded for each name, and the membership voted to elect each board member unanimously.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Next month's meeting will be June 27 at the Taylor County Courthouse in the new Jury Assembly Room on the first floor. Park in the northeast parking lot (200 Oak Street) and enter at the adjacent (northwest) door.
Nancy introduced Bob Bruce who gave the program on travel writing. Bob was the Abilene Reporter-News travel writer until he retired four years ago. He gave valuable information and interesting history regarding writing for special interest events around the state.
Birthday cake and punch were served by the Board to celebrate the Guild's 33rd year as an active and supportive organization for area writers.
Outgoing President Stewart Caffey thanked the Guild for the experience and opportunity he had enjoyed as the leader of our organization and encouraged each member to get behind Barbara as our new president and continue to support the writers of the Big Country.
