Abilene Writers Guild Meeting Minutes
First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall
AWG Thanksgiving Dinner
November 18, 2004
Attendance was light at the annual thanksgiving meal, but the food was GREAT! Thanks to the folks at First Baptist Church for cooking up BBQ briskit and chicken. Those who came brought some fantastic dishes. Karen Witemeyer did a wonderful job of coordinating the event.
Laurie Black presented an excellent program about birds, complete with slides of different species. Laurie is a member of the local chapter of the National Audobon Society. She talked about how photos can spice up a written piece and also showed how to identify different species of birds we might see in the Abilene area.
Many members brought Christmas gifts for Child Protective Services children. This is our annual Christmas project, with gifts focusing on reading, writing, and creative expression for children. Many great items were received. Jan Carrington will deliver to the staff at CPS.
Guests and family members were introduced, and we all sang "Albuquerque, He's my Turkey" before leaving.
Respectfully submitted,
Jan R. Carrington
