Abilene Writers Guild Meeting Minutes

September 26, 2002

President Barbara Rollins called the meeting to order. Minutes from the August meeting, although not posted, were approved as written.

Treasurer Gail McMillan reported a present balance of $2,074.25. Membership totals 88 as of the meeting.

Members shared brags and sags, and guests were introduced.

President Rollins reminded the membership of the West Texas Book & Author Festival September 28, and gave a list of workshops scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the 27th and 28th.

President Rollins also reminded the membership of the workshop October 19 at the First Baptist Church with Kathryn Lay giving on workshop on inspirational writing. The October regular program will be Sarah Mulkey. November is Thanksgiving dinner, and President Rollins announced that the membership will sign up at the October meeting to bring side dishes or desserts. Speaker will be Sam Davis, a cowboy poet.

September contest winners were announced. The rules for the monthly contests were reviwed and corrected to only one entry per contestant.

Visitor/new member Mary Ellen Webb read some of her poetry and an excerpt from her unpublished novel.

Barbara Darnall introduced the speaker, Dr. Robert Pace, an associate professor of history at McMurray University. Dr. Pace brought the Guild up to date on McWhinney Foundation Press, and discussed his book, Halls of Honor: College Student Life in the Old South.

The meeting adjourned, and everyone enjoyed refreshments served by Joan Rogers, Mac Davis, and Ernestine Tenant.
